When you sign up to Yokahu we thoroughly explain and ensure you understand your policy at the point of sign up, including when you will be eligible for a payout in the event of a hurricane
Here are the general circumstances when Yokahu will not pay and the integral things for you to understand:
- Yokahu does not pay in the first 14 days after you purchase a policy for the first time.
- To receive a payout you must experience hurricane strength winds (74mph+). It is possible to still suffer loss as a result of a hurricane when the winds at your home do not exceed 74mph. In which case Yokahu unfortunately will not pay, but you still may experience loss.
- Most of our policies start paying at our ‘High’ Category. This is roughly equivalent to a Category 3 Storm (as per the National Hurricane Centre). This is a Major Hurricane and will be expected to do significant damage to any island it hits. However it is also possible you will suffer a loss from a Low or Medium category storm. But your Yokahu policy will not pay you for a Low or Medium category storm if it only starts paying out at High.
- Every policy has a total limit on it - usually the amount we would pay you for an Extreme category storm. In the unlikely event that you are hit by multiple hurricanes in the same year it is possible the policy limit will mean you are not due any further payments.
As we mentioned, we will always ensure you fully understand the terms of your policy and at which hurricane category you could expect a payout. .
